From Sludge to Pure: How JINGYUAN’s Rigid Membranes Revitalize Stale Diesel in High-Humidity Environments

Operating heavy mining machinery and large diesel power plants in regions characterized by high humidity presents continuous challenges for fluid management. In such environments, temperature differences easily lead to the breeding of condensation water and accelerate oxidation within bulk fuel storage tanks. Over time, this stale diesel undergoes chemical degradation, resulting in the precipitation of gums, asphaltenes, and the formation of viscous sludge. When drawn into the high-pressure common rail (HPCR) systems of mining fleets or industrial generators, this contaminated fuel can cause injector sticking, pump wear, and unplanned operational downtime.

Conventional filtration methods, such as coalescing filters or fiberglass elements, often encounter performance bottlenecks in these specific conditions. These traditional media rely on physical interception based on pore size, making them highly susceptible to deep fouling and pressure penetration when processing soft, deformable colloidal sludge. Furthermore, addressing emulsified water often requires heating the fuel, which introduces the risk of thermal degradation.

The Engineering of Rigid Polymer Membranes

To address the complexities of stale diesel in humid climates, JINGYUAN has engineered filtration systems based on polymer rigid composite membranes. This material science approach shifts the filtration mechanism from passive surface interception to active phase separation and polar adsorption.

  1. Ambient Temperature Phase Separation for Water Removal Instead of relying on thermal treatments to separate water from diesel, the JINGYUAN systems (such as the modular JY-DX5 and JY-DX40) utilize pure physical phase separation technology. The polymer membranes are engineered with specific lipophilic and hydrophobic surface characteristics. As the fuel passes through the membrane at ambient temperatures, a repulsive force is formed at the liquid-liquid interface, physically blocking free water molecules and guiding them to settle naturally into a designated collection zone. This method effectively manages the condensation issues prevalent in tropical and high-humidity mining sites while maintaining low energy consumption.
  2. Capturing Soft Gums via Asymmetric Gradient Pores To combat the sludge and oxidation products found in stale diesel, the rigid composite membranes feature a specialized three-dimensional maze structure. By employing an asymmetric gradient pore design, the membrane achieves “screening + adsorption” dual-effect purification. The deep pore channels utilize physical interception and polar adsorption to securely lock in soft gums and oil sludge. This targeted removal of degradation products improves the oxidation stability of the diesel, mitigating the risk of injector failure in heavy machinery.

Operational Sustainability: Moving Away from Consumables

For electromechanical maintenance providers and large private mining fleets, the operational expenditure associated with frequent filter replacements is substantial. The rigid structure of the JINGYUAN membranes allows them to withstand high-pressure scouring without experiencing fiber shedding.

When the system detects an increase in differential pressure indicating surface loading, it utilizes a gas pulse backwash mechanism. Compressed nitrogen or clean air (0.4-0.6 MPa) is injected from within the membrane tube, instantly breaking down and stripping away the accumulated sludge and impurity filter cake from the outer wall. This online regeneration restores the membrane flux, extending the functional lifespan of a single set of filter elements to over 36 months.
